The Masai Mara is teeming with wildlife such as wildebeest, giraffe, baboons, warthogs, bat eared foxes, grey jackals, spotted hyena, topis, impala and hartebeest. The game reserve is also home to numerous elephants, buffaloes, zebras and hippos.
The park is home to thousands of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle, which make the phenomenal annual migration, known as the Great Migration. If you are coming to Masai Mara during July/August, we know you are coming for viewing the great migration of the wildbeest. We have a special treat awaiting you. in July and August, when millions of these ungainly beasts move north from the Serengeti. While you're more likely to see endless columns grazing or trudging along rather than dramatic TV-style river fordings, it is nonetheless a staggering experience. These herbivores migrate north from the Serengeti in about July and return south crossing the Mara River in about November in search of water and fresh grazing. This dramatic spectacle is one of the most impressive natural phenomena on earth, especially watching the herbivores plunge into the Mara River where crocodiles and hippos lie in waiting.
The high concentration of grazers in turn attracts impressive numbers of predators. Lions are commonly sighted in Masai Mara with cheetahs and leopards being harder to spot but still reasonably common.
