A key feature of Riad Africa is its central courtyard pool – perfect for a quick dip after a day sightseeing.
At 16 square metres in size and with a depth ranging from 0.8m to 1m it is one of the largest pools of over 1,000 riads located in Marrakech medina.
Located on the ground floor, directly opposite the pool, our lounge doubles as a breakfast/dining room. Comfortably seating up to 20 guests, this room is stylishly designed in beige, cream and opulent red and has a corner fireplace with log fires lit daily between November and February.
Facilities include twin reversible air-conditioning/heating units, a wide-screen TV with a Made-in-Morocco film collection, DVD/CD/radio stereo, Wi-Fi access, a selection of games and a small library. Walls are adorned with fascinating sub-Saharan African carved masks, each with a story to tell.
A smaller lounge is located in a second palm-fringed courtyard in our adjoining house.
With a fountain and small bar this area is a popular spot for breakfast, afternoon coffee or early evening aperitif.
This part of the riad is also an ideal place to enjoy a refreshing pot of mint tea.
We find that many guests gravitate towards this salon in the early evening for a pre-dinner drink or two.
Covering almost 250 square metres Riad Africa’s roof terrace is a real haven of peace and tranquility, offering wonderful views out over the medina to Djemaa el Fna and Koutoubia. A Caidal Tent provides respite from the sun and a place to lounge and relax.
Garlanded with yuccas, geraniums, bougainvillea, lemon and orange trees the terrace is a delightful spot to take breakfast or a romantic candlelit evening meal. Sun loungers and parasols are available for guests wishing to lay back in the shade. In winter months the peaks of the High Atlas Mountains can be seen to the south of the city.
Recently completed, the Aswan room is Riad Africa’s newest bedroom. Located on the first floor with a pool view Aswan offers cosy flexible sleeping accommodation – ideal for kids (with bunks), couples (as a double or twin) or solo travellers.
Furnished by local Marrakchi artisans in tadelakt with traditional bejmat tiled floor, double dark wood Moroccan doors and polished brass fittings this room has an authentic en-suite bathroom with rain shower, toilet and corner washbasin.
Named after a Ugandan National Park and home of the endangered Mountain Gorilla, the Bwindi Superior Room is located on the ground floor of Riad Africa directly behind the pool.
With 23 square metres of living space Bwindi offers flexible accommodation in a Queen size bed which can be split into two single beds. This room can accommodate an extra bed and is suitable for guests with restricted mobility and wheelchair users.
Decorated and furnished by local Marrakchi artisans in tadelakt with polished brass fittings this room has an en-suite bathroom with wheelchair-friendly facilities including a 1 metre wide door, additional hand rails, reduced height wash basin and raised toilet.
Located on the first floor facing the courtyard and overlooking both the pool and street, Casablanca extends to over 32 square metres of living space. Perfect as a spacious double, this room can also accommodate up to two extra beds and is ideal for families.
Decorated and furnished by local Marrakchi artisans in tadelakt with beautiful tatawi ceiling and polished brass fittings this suite has a large en-suite bathroom with window, bath/shower, towel stand and brass washbasin.
